How it works
The road from first call to back pay
Every claim is different, but most go through the same five stretches. Here's what happens in each one, and who does what.
- 01
Step 1: Knock on the door
Call, write or stop by. A lawyer or paralegal listens, asks for the date on your latest letter and tells you what we'd need. The first conversation is free.
- 02
Step 2: Unpack the records
With your permission we request service, medical and work records. You sign one fee agreement, and we explain every line of it.
- 03
Step 3: Build the file
We line up the evidence with the rules, ask your doctors for statements and, where it helps, an outside opinion.
- 04
Step 4: Make the case
We file and follow up, then argue for you at the VA, the Board or a Social Security hearing. You hear from us at each step.
- 05
Step 5: Bring it home
When you win, back pay arrives and our fee comes out of it, as the law sets. We check the math and the start date.
Fees
What a disability claim costs you
Disability fees are set by law, and you pay them only if you win back pay.
Social Security claims
Our fee is 25% of past-due benefits, up to a cap set by Social Security, which approves the fee and pays it to us from your back pay. No back pay, no fee.
VA claims
Accredited attorneys can't charge for a first claim. After a VA decision, our fee is a share of past-due benefits in a written agreement, limited by law, and the VA usually pays it from your back pay.
Costs
You may still owe out-of-pocket costs, such as copies of medical records or an outside doctor's opinion. We tell you the amount and ask before we spend any.
